Salve. Xelatex trova tra i fonts di Windows il Simoncini Garamond correttamente installato in windows 10, eccetto il corsivo. Come mai? Ho cambiato formato senza risultati. Vi posto il mio mwe. Sostituite il Simoncini con un font di Windows e a seconda del font non troverà il corsivo o il grassetto, ecc.`

Dipende da come hai installato i font.
In ogni caso sul mio Mac dove sono installati sia i Simoncini Garamond sia i Simoncini Garamando Std ho i seguenti risultati:
1) con la famiglia Simoncini Garamond è disponibile solo il tondo se lo si dichiara come l’hia diciarato tu; per caricare anche le altre tre forme, Italic, Bold e Bold Italic, bisogno procedere come descritto noe paragrafo 2.2 della documentazione di fontspec. Non l’ho provato quindi non ti so dire se si manifesta l’inconveniente che produece la seconda collezione.2) La famiglia Simoncini Garamond Std è completa, quindi aggiungendo [tt]Std[/tt] nel comando \setmainfont, ci sono tutte quattro le varianti e il tuo EMC funziona tranne per un dettaglio; manca la forma maiuscoletta; quindi per ottenere una forma maiuscoletta bisogna rimpicciolire le maiuscole, cosa fattibile con altri comendi di fontspec, ma che danno visibilmente un risultato insoddisfacente. Il maiuscoletto vero non è uguale al maiuscolo rimpicciolito; la differenza è piccola ma si vede.

Se intendi dire di specificare il path e poi le forme disponibili, regular, italic e bold, non funziona comunque. Il bello è che xelatex trova la forma, ma mi dice che non esiste.Non so se il problema è collegato, ma non riesco ad installare in unico folder tutti e tre i fonts in Windows. Non so il perché. Le ho provate tutte anche per questo.
Una forma rimane sempre fuori. In Internet non ho trovato suggerimenti validi, aber lavoro sempre con aperto fontspec doc.

Notare che in fondo al codice c’è il test che domanda se xelatex trova il font e la risposta è sì. Eppure il corsivo non è in Simoncini.

Con il tuo modello funziona, però non capisco il messaggio che non trova i caratteri quando ho eliminato tutti i \textsc. C’è la possibilità di ottenere un maiuscoletto con xelatex ed un font otf che non lo supporta? So che in windows, uno può ottenere quando vuole il maiuscoletto.Grazie e ciao,

Non so dove hai trovato quelle macor per generare un finto maiuscoletto; Forse funziona nel senso di sostituire una stringa di lettere maiuscole e minuscole in una stringa di sole lettere maiuscole di un corpo minore, corrispondente, mi pare, al corpo dei caratteri matemtici per i pedici di primo livello; In sostanza se componi in corpo 10pt i font per i pedici di primo livello sono di corpo 7pt; quindi le maiuscole vengono ridotte del 30%; siccome tutta la stringa è composta in maiuscolo, questo assomiglia ad un maiuscoletto. Per essere ancora più precisi tieni presente che i 10pt del corpo sono più o meno distribuiti così: 5pt per le minuscole, 7.5pt per le maiuscole e 2.5pt per i discendenti delle minuscole e di qualche rara maiuscola. quindi la macro trasforma la stringa originale in tutte maiuscole scala la stringa ad avere una altezza di circa 5.25pt, quindi leggermente più alte delle minuscole, ma senza distinzione fra maiuscole e minuscole: Pippo, diventa PIPPO.Per fare un buon lavoro ci vorrebbe una macro molto più complessa che esegua la trasformazione solo lettera per lettera. e non per la parola intera; oppure che l’autore abbia la pazienza di scrivere [tt]P\fakesc{ippo}[/tt].

Il maiuscoletto non è il maiuscolo più piccolo, è una serie di glifi opportunamente disegnati.
Ci sono varie soluzioni per emularlo a partire dal maiuscolo, basta che cerchi in rete.
Certo, il risultato non è in genere adeguato, se non altro perché se prodotto
da una semplice scalatura delle dimensioni, risulta fatalmente anche più sottile
(a parte appunto certe varianti nel disegno del maiuscoletto autentico).
Si può produrre in modo automatico con Fontlab o con Fotforge, il che
consente di avere un miglior controllo sui parametri. In pratica, questi programmi
ti consentono di definire non solo una scalatura delle dimensioni, ma anche
il rapporto fra aste grosse e sottili, la gestione degli “oblique stems” ecc.
Ciò non toglie che anche in quest’ultimo caso, se si vuole arrivare a un buon risultato,
è necessario apportare numerose correzioni a mano. Insomma un’impresa non da pocom
