Per la cronaca, dvips in genere non spezza; dvipdfmx spezza.Inoltre, nel LaTeX Companion (2nd Edition), pagina 95, si parla dell’opzione [hyphens]
del pacchetto url. L’esempio

In realtà se non carichi hyperref funziona anche con dvips.
Però se usi hyperref il link lo spezza solo pdflatex.
