Ho l’impressione che ci sia un grave baco in plainnat.bst, quindi ti consiglio di farlo presente all’autore che è di solito molto disponibile.

non e` un baco ma una scelta dell’autore:

Thank you for pointing this out to me. plainnat and plain.bst are meant to be
as close as possible to in their output, although some differences are
inevitable. In many author-year systems, the papers are sorted by the way
they are cited, so the papers with more than two authors all come after those
with one or two (for the same first author). This is intended.
