          Ad essere sinceri, sono ritornato alla versione type 1 e quindi gli accenti non possono essere riprodotti. Ti allego un mwe in cui si vede che il simoncini funziona. Ti riferisci a displaymath?

            Alla fine ho ceduto. Ho convertito i fonts type 1 in open type e adesso funziona tutto.

              Onestamente, il simoncini garamond l’acquistai anni fa dalla Adobe per 150 euro. È quello originale. Non installerei mai versioni free o di altri produttori.

                  Come vedi, le lettere sono distanziate. Il seguente è un esempio sempre con il simoncini, ma con i soliti font per la matematica. Le distanze tra le lettere sono quelle corrette. Nell’esempio precedente, $da$ non sembra un prodotto…

                  Al posto del simoncini puoi mettere il font che vuoi.

                  Riguardo a dove installare i fonts… Devo dire che io non aggiorno mai una versione. La cancello e installo quella nuova. In questo modo scarico la nuova versione e la salvo su dvd. Se succedono casini, posso reinstallare facilmente.

                  Incidentalmente, ho installato texlive su windows 7 con un lenovo G780, 16gb di ram, ssd, e processore intel core i5. Ci sono voluti 80 minuti. Ho installato su un hard disk normale esterno opensuse e su di essa la stessa texlive. L’installazione è durata 21 minuti. Stesso computer. Solo OS diversi…

                  P.S. Onestamente, io ho sempre usato emacs senza gui. Sono minimalista e con i soli tasti è tutto più rapido. Con windows ho preferito installare la versione con gui per evitare complicazioni inutili.

                    Mi devo correggere. Trova la famiglia. Il tuo esempio funziona alla grande. Nel mio caso, trovo il problema segnalato prima (cioè che in $da\thickapprox 8$ la d è lontana dalla a) e il fatto che alcuni simboli non vengono trovati e vengono sostituiti con quellii di default. Il log parla di input line 40, ma alla linea 40 inizia solo il documento. Per inciso io uso da quasi vent’anni emacs come editor. Non lo cambieri con nessuno.

                    P.S. Dato che texlive alla fine è solo un grosso albero, si può salvare la distribuzione copiando tutta la directory a partire da “texlive” su una chiavetta e reinstallarla al bisogno semplicemente copiandola?

                        Allora, il trucco sta nel fatto che il font non era installato. Non capisco il perché. Io ho scaricato la iso di texlive e compiuto l’installazione completa. Ho dovuto usare getnonfreefonts. Adesso, mi dice che non trova la mappa del simoncini, ma i documenti vengono compilati in simoncini ugualmente. Incidentalmente, il tuo file funziona correttamente in tutti i passi. A parte il fatto che non trova il simoncini.
                        Il file funziona mettendo solo \usepackage[urw-garamond]{mathdesign} e indicando esplicitamente il simoncini. Ho notato, però che le lettere vengono troppo distanziate. Per esempio, $dp$. Si può ovviare?

                              Grazie. Hai ragione. Io avevo installato anche su Windows texlive2016, poi ho avuto dei problemi e ho reinstallato tutto a partire da una iso che mi ero creata. Mi sono trovato ad avere texlive2015. Su Linux ho installato texlive2016. Reinstallare texlive significa reinstallare anche il simoncini… Vedrò cosa fare. In questo momento non ho salute e tutto mi riesce difficile.

                                Grazie per i consigli tipografici. La tua soluzione, con me non funziona. Ho provato con il simoncini, niente da fare. Come prima. Ho provato con times e con il tuo font. Il pdflatex non compila il documento. Il latex produce un dvi in cui sono assenti dalla formula tutte le lettere. Ho provato con il tuo stesso documento.

                                  Usando il pdflatex non esce niente. Nel log compaiono due warnings:

                                  E come giustificazione del fallimento:

                                  Usando il latex, i due warnings rimangono. Però sembra andare tutto per il meglio. Lanciando:

                                  (questo il nome del mwe), salta fuori solo un segno di integrale, due parentesi e un uguale.

                                  Nell’aprirsi, dviout segnala spesso:

                                  Dove sbaglio? Ho usato la guida ‘The mathdesign package’ di Pichaureau, dove a pagina 2 indica come usare il font.
